Jian Ghomeshi now facing charges

CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi, recently accused in the media of numerous sexual assault acts, has been formally charged with 4 counts of sexual assault and faces a potential fifth charge of “overcoming resistance by choking.”  His lawyer informs the media that he will be pleading not guilty and that they will not be making any further comments in the press.  For more information on his arrest, click HERE

Honestly I couldn’t be happier!  And I am sure a lot of my kinky comrades are cheering with glee as well!  Ghomeshi is a clear case of using BDSM as a cover for his illegal activities and to justify his assault of numerous women over the years.  I resent him using our community as a cover and I resent the perception that non-consensual acts are a part of WIITWD.  But formally charging him with sexual assault separates what he does and what we do.  There is a clear line drawn – CONSENT.

What I do love, is how many conversations about consent this has sparked – in our kinky world and in the vanilla and sex positive worlds.  Consent is the crux of everything we do and the more conversations we have about it the better the world around us will understand WIITWD.  Consent is the cornerstone of respecting the people around us.  Whether it is a hug at a munch or defining the boundaries of play and sex – it is what keeps our kink activities and interactions ethical and safe for everyone involved.

Because violence can be crazy sexy!  I mean seriously hot!  Choking can be a great experience for the top and the bottom, a cane strike can satisfy our inner longing and objectification can make us wet as hell!  But only if it is consensual!  Anything else is just abuse.
